Artist Mr. Brainwash real name Thierry Guettas (French born 1966) is one of the most famous contemporary POP ART and STREET ART artists and a cameraman, his graffiti and contemporary works are highly valued by collectors.
Mr. Brainwash was born in Garges-lès-Gonesse in Paris, France, but moved to Los Angeles with his father and several siblings at the age of 15 after the death of his mother. The artist attended Fairfax High School for about a year, then left school and began organizing Hollywood-related events.
He started a business selling vintage clothing in Los Angeles, New York and Miami. He discovered his interest in graffiti during a visit to France in 1999, where he learned that his cousin was the notorious street artist Invader! He discovered his talent for the camera while filming the nightly activities of Invader and other street artists, such as Shepard Fairey, whose OBEY posters have appeared in many cities around the world, and Zevs.
At that time, a plan was made to publish documentary videos about the work of graffiti artists. In 2009, Mr Brarainwash met Banksy and supported him at his exhibition in Los Angeles - Barely Legal, which was visited by many celebrities and art collectors. Both artists then decided to make a detailed documentary about the mysterious graffiti art scene. The result was an Oscar-nominated documentary Exit through the Gift Shop, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2010. The film shows the rapid arrival of Mr. Brainwash to the street art scene through his works, such as a portrait of Jim Morrison, which sold for $ 100,000, and his painting of Charlie Chaplin, which is estimated at $ 90,000. After the great success of the film, Mr. Brainwash has a growing fan base for exhibitions such as the one in the opera gallery in London, which was sold out after two days. Musicians like Madonna and the rock band Red Hot Peppers are fans of Mr. Brainwash and they like to use his artistic services for many promotional activities.
